For owners who are able to look after their horses in the summer during the long hours of daylight and 24hr turnout, but who don’t have the facilities or the time to care for them during the dark winter months, we can offer a solution. On
our scenic farm in mid-Cornwall we have a purpose built stable yard
adjacent to our very popular small complex of holiday cottages.
During the summer the yard is busy with young people enjoying
our miniature ponies and other animals, and is also host to owners
who bring their horses on holiday with them. However the stables
are quiet from October to Whitsun, so there is room and time to care
for horses in need of winter livery. Basic livery is offered including hay and basic feed, grooming, stabling, daily rug changing and turnout. The yard and grazing is secure, and we live on site so are on hand for any emergencies. Exercise and schooling can also be arranged. There
are two vet practices within 3 miles, and a choice of local farriers. A livery package can be negotiated to include some use of the luxury 4 star cottages on the site, for instance at weekends, making a suitable base for owners living some distance away. During the summer owners can use their own grazing fields, or it would be possible to arrange summer grazing, either at Chark, or in the local area. The riding in the area is good, with a variety of routes incorporating quiet country lanes and scenic off road tracks, and National Trust Woodland. Horses
are now permitted to traverse the whole of the Camel Trail which starts
in Bodmin. One leg of the route goes up onto Bodmin Moor, the other
to Wadebridge and Padstow. There are several excellent establishments close by offering tuition on your own horse, and a choice of pay as you go cross country courses. There are also covered arenas offering the chance to compete locally during the winter with both dressage and show jumping staged regularly. Several local hunts meet in the surrounding areas.
